School exchange news
Following the success of last year's Spanish exchange with El Fontanal School in Lebrija, near Seville, pupils and staff at SJCR were delighted to be able continue this partnership in 2008. In April twenty-two pupils mainly from Years 9 & 10 spent eight days with their Spanish partners, practising their Spanish and getting to know all about Spanish family life in one of the most hospitable and historical regions of Spain.
Staff and students at El Fontanal School again went out of their way to organise a fantastic programme of visits and activities for our pupils which included a visit to the ancient mosque in Cordoba and a boat trip to Doñana National Park where we were able to watch wild boars and deer from camouflaged viewing galleries. El Fontanal organised an Activities Day where pupils from both schools took part in music workshops, cookery classes and sports activities. Some of the SJCR students were part of the football team that defeated the combined London-Lebrija teachers' side, and with so many other activities going on during Activities Day the local television station came to film some of the events and speak to some of our pupils
Our students were very interested in the differences between British and Spanish schools. For example, did you know that in Spain it's the teachers who move from classroom to classroom, not the students?!
