Curriculum Statement

The following subjects are offered at Sir John Cass Redcoat School across each year group

Year 7 (Key Stage 3)

English, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education, PSHE, History, Geography, one Modern Foreign Language (Spanish, French or Bengali), Art, Technology (from: Textiles, Resistant Materials, Graphic Design, Food Technology), Drama, Music, Information Communication Technology, Physical Education.

Year 8 (Key Stage 3)

English, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education, PSHE, History, Geography, one Modern Foreign Language (Spanish, French or Bengali), Art, Technology (from: Textiles, Resistant Materials, Graphic Design, Food Technology), Drama, Music, Information Communication Technology, Physical Education.

Year 9 (Key Stage 3)

English, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education, PSHE, History, Geography, one Modern Foreign Language (Spanish, French or Bengali), Art, Technology (from: Textiles, Resistant Materials, Graphic Design, Food Technology), Drama, Music, Information Communication Technology, Physical Education.

Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4)

Students study a compulsory core of:

English (Language and Literature), Mathematics, Science, Religious Education, Physical Education, PSHE

In addition a range of options pathways are offered tailored to individual student needs.  Courses will only run subject to student numbers and may be offered at either or both of GCSE, BTEC and Cambridge Technical Level 2.
GCSE: Double Science (Additional Science and Core Science), Triple Science (Biology, Physics, Chemistry), History, Geography, French, Spanish, Bengali, Art, Textiles, Graphics, Product Design, Drama, Music, Psychology, Sociology, Media Studies.
BTEC: Information and Communication Technology, Business Studies, Sports Science.
Cambridge Technical Level 2: Health and Social Care.

Years 12 and 13 (Key Stage 5)

Students are expected to study 4 Level 3 courses (A Level or BTEC Level 3). Courses will only run subject to student numbers. These include: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, History, Geography, French, Spanish, Bengali, Art, Textiles, Graphics, Product Design, Information Communication Technology, Drama, Music, Psychology, Sociology, Health and Social Care, Business Studies, Government and Politics, Economics, Philosophy, Computer Science, Law, Critical Thinking, Media Studies, English, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Creative Writing, Drama & Theatre Studies, Music Technology, Sports Science and community languages. In addition students who have not obtained at least a grade C in GCSE English or Mathematics are required to retake these courses and can follow a level 2 course in Business or Health and Social Care.

In addition students may receive support for identified individual special needs and language support. The school reserves the right to alter the offer at any time subject to statutory requirements and the needs of the school.
